Hello there, you’ll probably find a bunch of one-shots in this collection, as I find one-shots tend to gear a bit more towards low-prep play.

Lost Goths From Beyond, by goblin goulash.

You are not from around here. Maybe you’re dead (you sure liked playing the part anyway). Maybe you’re in Hell (your parents warned you). Maybe you found a Victorian city in your dreams. Maybe you come from the Realm of Fairies, or a timeline stuck in the 90s, or a planet far far away… Well you’re here now, and you gotta do what you gotta do to get back. And you intend to do it in style. High heel, black leather, smoky eye style. You’re a Goth from Beyond, and you’re here on a Mission!

Lost Goths from Beyond is a stylish, rules-light TTRPG for 1-5 Goths and 1 GM.

As a hack of Lasers & Feelings, Lost Goths from Beyond is meant to be quick in execution, with obstacles coming up as you roll - and for that reason I think it doesn’t really require much prep. I’d say that the most you’ll have to do is actually collaborative at the table - deciding the setting and limits of your characters, and determining what subject matter you do or do not want to explore in your game.

I have two things I like about this game - one is the layout, how clean and succinct it is, communicating the vibe while keeping the instructions short and to the point. The other is the thirteen special items you can choose from to give your Gogh character their own unique thing - whether that be nail polish that turns you invisible, a body piercing that emits light, or stylish sunglasses that can see in the infrared.

Christ Heist, by shawk games.

ALL ABOARD… It’s 1907 and you’ve been down on your luck. Jobs are drying up, wars are being waged, and the west is growing. As luck would have it, your reputation precedes you: as a storied felon, you and your crew have been forged through indominable industry expertise and pulled together for one last job: Rob the Church.

It was a dangerous journey to Kansas City – but you all know your roles, and you know what you need to do: trick the laity in St. Anthony’s Chapel Car out of their tithes, make off with the Solid Gold Jesus Crucifix, and exit the train in Denver before anyone notices.

Heist games are excellent for one-shot games, and this heist is built on the fabulous Honey Heist rules, which are designed for little to no prep. Because you’re robbing a train, the game comes with a timetable for each of the train’s stops, which can be placed in front of each player so they can come up with a plan on the fly. As per Honey Heist tradition, you also have a series of roll-tables for the GM to help design the Chapel Car of the train and the nature of Bishop Bartholomew, as well as the kinds of complications to make your heist interesting!

The Quick, The Quiet & The Dead, by Whimsynaut Games.

Play as a group of survivors, working together to survive the night from a random table of horrors. Will you be escaping an alien spider in a rusting theme park, an eldritch horror in an abandoned campsite or a murderous cyborg aboard a cargo ship in a storm? 

Another Lasers & Feelings hack, this game also gives the GM some roll-tables to generate a situation on the fly. The basic setting is that you’re surviving some kind of horror scenario, but you can cater the scenario to fit the style of horror movie you’re interested in. If there’s a horror setting that you like, you can probably layer that over this game to give yourself a quick horror rush.

The Head, by forkfrenzy.

Vassago's body lays before you. His head is in your backpack. The labyrinth goes on forever. It’s your home. It’s everyone’s home. Maybe you'll get out some day, but right now you have to deliver this head to the Duchess. 

The Head is a 1-page, 1-session roleplaying game (RPG) by Levon Jihanian — set in a mysterious, labyrinthine world. The player characters have just cut off Vassago’s head and are tasked with delivering it to the Dutchess, who lives at the palace at the center of the labyrinth. The game builds on the mechanics of Fuck! It’s Dracula and The Agony of Elves.

I don’t own the rules document for The Head, but I did find a copy of the rules for Fuck! It’s Dracula, which is about 200 words long and fairly simple. The game appears to go through a various number of phases, with roll-tables used to both generate characters as well as events that will bring you closer and closer to the narrative climax.

It looks like much of the details behind the main premise are also meant to be explored during play, which I also take as a sign of low to no-prep. If you ‘re coming up with the lore as you play, you don’t need to prepare it beforehand!

Loom of Blood, by curubethion.

Spin your webs of fear through the night, from the corners where you lurk.

Loom of Blood is a game of unfolding horror: sketch out the strokes of unsuspecting lives, and then uproot them into murderous mayhem. Build your own horror movie franchise with your friends, and delve deep into a tangled tapestry of wickedness, bloodshed, and frail humanity.

Loom of Blood is collaborative, and for that reason, I think it’s a great option for a no-prep tabletop game. I find that GM-less games still typically require a person to exist in a facilitator role, so you might have to read through the pdf before you sit down to play, but each beat of the story is introduced in the process of play - try to come up with too much beforehand, and you’ll probably feel like you’re trying to turn the story in a direction it wasn’t naturally set up to go.

On your turn, you’ll introduce either a Moment, a Fool, or a Mirage to the story. Moments are descriptive phrases that introduce a new horror to the scene, like the rustling of trees, or a scream of something “neither animal nor human.” A Fool is a character doomed to stumble into the danger, their death perhaps not imminent, but likely to happen before the story is over. A Mirage is a place that feels safe, a location that fills out the map of your story.

The elements of this story feel somewhat similar to I’m sorry did you stay street magic, which is also beautifully collaborative, as well as a game I’d consider no or low-prep. If you want a game of collaboration that leads you through each step, you might be interested in Loom of Blood.

Let’s Kill the King, by Obli-Awa.

The revolution has begun.  The people cry out for justice and, as night falls on the capital city, they have swarmed its streets in righteous fury, pitchforks aloft and torches blazing.  The guard have locked things down as best they can, but you, you lucky few, have made it over the wall; managed to slip into the castle thus far unnoticed.  Tonight, the old order falls.  You will be the regicides who bring it crashing down.

A TTRPG designed to indulge in the fantasy of bringing corrupt leaders to the justice they so richly deserve by our own damned hands, LET'S KILL THE KING offers 2-4 players and 1 game master a raucous couple hours of manic, king-hunting glory.  Absolutely no preparation of any kind is needed from either GMs or PCs: encounters are generated via table and the basics of who a character is can be rolled on the spot.  

Games like this one, which have a very strong premise and a very clear goal, are often really good options for folks who want little to no prep. You are sitting down knowing what all of you want - to kill the King - and you also have a few other facts that are already determined for you, such as the fact that you’re hunting through the Castle, so you have a good idea of the limits of what you might or might not find. I’m also a big big fan of the fact that you have two clocks that you can use to track your progress - one for the Hunt of the king, and one for the King’s escape!

Black Bars, by HMLW.

Black Bars is a roleplaying game for three people about slipping secrets past censors that want to prevent the TRUTH from getting out. One of you will play the Whistleblower, the one that creates the Secret and the Messages. Another will be the Censor, redacting the Messages whilst trying to discover the Secret yourself. The last of you is the Decoder, receiving a heavily obfuscated Message and tasked with finding out the Secret.

The prerequisites for Black Bars are pretty specific (3 players only), but I really like the goals for your characters here. A game about trying to code, decode and redact messages, you can invent all of your own reasons for why these messages are being sent and obfuscated, but you can also play competitively, which might allow for a nice transition from boardgames into roleplaying games, if that’s a background that your players share.

Goblin Errands, by Sharkbomb Studios.

Goblin Errands is a no-prep RPG for 2 to 4 goblins and one Tall Person. Together you'll go on comical (mis)adventures trying to complete seemingly mundane tasks as you struggle with a world not designed for you. 

You've just joined a new family of goblins and you are determined to prove yourself useful. Clearly, the best way to do so is by running errands for the community. 

Unfortunately as a goblin you live in a world made for folk much bigger and stronger than you. And on top of that you have only a single brain cell to work with - and one that you have to share with your fellow goblins. Even otherwise ordinary everyday tasks turn into hilarious challenges.

A lighthearted game with cute misadventures, Goblin Errands describes itself as a game about “solidarity among the unrecognized” - folks who don’t fit in to the infrastructure of the world as it is. It’s a game about underdogs, but the stakes feel rather low, so this might be a great palette cleanser, or a nice way to start roleplaying with a group of people you don’t know as well.

While the game styles itself as a no-prep one shot, you’ll probably have to do a bit of reading beforehand, just to make sure you know how the rules work. Character creation looks like it needs to happen at the beginning of the game, since you generate something called the kenn together. The fact that the goblins are sorted into playbooks signals easy of entry to me, since playbooks often provide all of the information you need to know about your character in one place.

When it comes to running the game, the GM will roll to generate an errand, but I think the obstacles and challenges that arise will likely become apparent thanks to the collaborative worldbuilding that happens before you create the characters.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.." A tired voice sang out.  Tears fell down who seemed to be the toughest kid in all of Denver. The kid no one dared to mess with. But here sat Vance Hopper.  The blonde sat alone in the basement of The Grabber, the man who had already taken two boys before him. Griffin Stagg, the boy who was invisible the whole time he was alive.  And Billy Showalter. Paperboy. As Vance remembered him as. He took a shaky breath in ,tears continuing to fall down the boy's bloodied face. 

 "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.."  He continued to sing, his knees close to his chest. He wanted to go home. Even if he was a delinquent, all Vance wanted to do was go home and act like everything was fine.  He knew he wasn't going home. Not when The Grabber had made that perfectly clear.  The constant "I almost let you out" he heard from the masked man shattered his heart completely. He knew he wasn't leaving anytime soon. So in his eyes, it was just pathetic to hear that, or even think he was leaving. He learnt that lesson last time he tried to leave. 

The feeling of a stupid belt.. That shit hurt so much, he felt like he couldn't move for weeks. When he had his nose broken, god he cried like a bitch. His eyes watered. It felt like it was getting pierced. But ten times worse. His tears continued to fall, as he softly continued to sing that stupid birthday song. He knew it was his birthday. He just knew. His eyes continued to fill to the brim with tears, before he rolled to lay on his side, himself basically curling into a ball. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.."

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR VANCE.." He cried out, slowly starting to hiccup on his words. He could feel himself stuttering and crying. Everything hurt. From his bloody nose, to all the welts on his back from the feeling of a belt.. The only thought on his mind was his family. For once. Not even pinball crossed his mind. Well, maybe once or twice. But his main goal was going home. Home, praying his parents would be glad he was okay. Well.  At least him mom. His dad and him had a rocky relationship.. Mainly with his dad being a cop... Long story. He usually was the one to always be called to the scene Vance caused. Just recently. At least he thought recently, it was the Grab N'Go..  That's another story for another day.

His eyes tightly closed, his body curled on himself, Vance could feel approaching him, and slowly but surely, it was The Grabber's. His head lifted slightly, before dropping right back onto the mattress he laid on. The Grabber held what seemed to be a knife tightly in his hand, but Vance didn't even notice at first glance. His eyes just closed. /The/Vance Hopper, had given up. After months of eating, he'd given up. Finally.  

As he felt his heart beat begin to quicken, but he didn't dare lift his head. Seconds later, there was nothing. The Grabber had done. it. The third victim. He smiled under the mask, staring at the bloodied mess he'd done.  No longer did Vance look so awake. The blood from the boys neck dripped down onto the once white shirt. The Grabber said nothing, just let out small laughs. Talk about crazy..

the early beginnings of attention placed on the band were first drawn from their respective universities. with corey and devin both attending yale university, they quickly became established as a popular college band, appearing across new haven before eventually being invited to perform at bars associated with other ivy league schools in the area. with kian joining the band's older members at yale and billie beginning to attended columbia university, their popularity would skyrocket, eventually allowing them to notoriety necessary to rent out a small studio for the formal recording of their first original body of work.

securing their manager, DENVER OWENS, would prove to be instrumental in so sick's rise in national prominence before the band would sign an exclusive recording contract just five years after forming.

-On the ref, you can see that they're from Earth-4709, a universe where global warming has taken full effect.

Powers:

-They have temperature based power, mostly for adaptation and can only control their own body temperature, but they can melt metal and even free helium.

-When in water, the farthest they can freeze with their body is about a 20ft radius, and can also evaporate a 20ft radius at their current max.

-When hot enough, they can make opponents hallucinate (like when it's hot in the desert and you see a mirage)

-Can survive long periods of time without food and water, bone can't break (can be pierced though), can also survive in the vacuum of space if they really wanted to.

-Their temperature can effect how well their webs work, either melting them entirely or freezing them in the web shooter.

-They get massive headaches from being in either state too long (depending on their outside environment), they have a chance of their limbs dying or their blood vessels bursting (but they have a specialized suit to protect them from this and specialized gloves and boots to help), slowed movement when cold, and dehydration.

Some backstory:

-They were bitten by a radioactive tardigrade spider, so they're really adaptable.

-The spider was an experiment that broke loose from Alchemax, that experiment being in the same vein of deep water gigantification, seeing how animals may fuse together in the hot temperatures of their world to survive.

-They're a 17-year-old who moved from Denver Colorado to NYC after becoming emancipated from their abusive family. NYC is where they were bitten by that spider (a really ugly looking spider too).

-Their canon event was when they shared their identity to their best friend's family. Their best friend's mom flew off the handle, trying to kill them, but their best friend stepped in the way, getting killed in the process. The mother was arrested, the youngest kid went into the foster system, and they buried their best friend. This left them all alone.

-Now, they're a senior in highschool, living in a shitty apartment in a shitty part of town, working a job whenever they can, paying off debts, and trying their best to afford food. All of this while still being the Kinetic-Spider for NYC.

Baddies:

-Will have the standard spiderman villains, but creepy because they're all genetic experiments.

-Alchemax in specific will be an antagonist because they want Kettle's DNA for further experimentation. So they want to catch them alive. They've done past experiments with blood samples, injecting a serum into someone. When they injected the serum, the person overheated then rapidly cooled to extreme temperatures, blowing up the room, killing everyone inside that room.

-Mercenaries hired by Alchemax to find and capture Kettle.

-Family keeps harassing them

- Obviously going to have school and work issues. They've just got a lot on their plate :(

How they joined the Spider Society:

-Was probably fighting an anomaly when someone came to help them (probably Lego spiderman smh my head).

-They noticed their powers and abilities and said "why the hell not?" And just scooped them up.

-bada-bing bada-boom, in the spider society.

-They now spend most of their time in the spider society HQ, finding it WAY better than their live back home.

-They probably spend most of their time with Pav, Hobie, Peter B Parker, Spider Noir, and Gwen, loving the chaotic energy, but they're willing to hangout with everyone.

-Probably didn't join the chase for Miles Morales because they didn't want to kill him on accident, and everyone was too close if they wanted to use their powers. (They got yelled at by Miguel for that, but not kicked out because they've never actually seen Miles).

Small headcanons/details:

-When they first got their spider powers, they probably melted through their bed and froze the melted mattress over night. Definitely didn't show up to school for a week till they understood their powers, claiming that they were at a mental hospital or something.

-They're an artist, having designed and made their whole suit over time.

-Their spider sense was horrifying at first because they couldn't feel when people were looking at them or were near them till the got the spider sense, so now they're hyper aware of it all.

-Probably almost killed a bad guy in an early fight, also being the one to call an ambulance for them.

-Has anxiety and probably AuDHD, so there's a LOT of sensory issues that they have to deal with, but being too hot is no longer a problem. They can adjust their body temperature till they're comfortable.

-On hot days at HQ, they're used as the walking AC (can also be a space heater on cold days).

-Peter B Parker and Pav have asked for them to heat up their food on many occasions (sometimes resulting in a melted storage container on bad days).

-Definitely pranks Miguel with Hobie and Pav, and definitely has had their ass handed to them by Miguel.

-Didn't realized that their costume was similar to Pav's till someone pointed it out.

-Would help out Miles once Hobie explains the situation to them.

BIOGRAPHY:

Ryder Sydney comes from a long line of established fighters, from bare-knuckle boxers to more recently mixed martial artists there’s not one generation that hasn’t been involved somehow. That being said, the relationship with the majority of his family is nonexistent. His family, particularly his father and uncles, only acted as relentless coaches. All the siblings were trained at a young age to keep their renowned family name relevant in the industry. In their household praise was rare as there was always something to improve on and “punishments” were harsh which Ryder, always the most rebellious one, was the brunt of. If there’s one thing that runs in their family and it’s violence and impulsiveness so it’s no surprise that he’s carried those traits from a young age too. 

TW FOR DEATH, DRINK DRIVING, AND CAR CRASH MENTIONS: Despite everything that has happened in Ryder’s life, the thing that impacts them the most is the night that one of their older brothers died. The person they were the closest to. They remember everything so vividly from him coming to pick them up in his new car, to speeding through the roads outside of the city, and the sudden loud stop and that’s when their memory stops. Little did Ryder know that their brother had been drinking and little did they know that only one person was going to make it out. Ryder has a million and one conflicting feelings about what happened (which also inspired his stage name) but still to this day they’ll never be a passenger in any car. END OF TWS.

As he got older he wanted to separate himself from the Sydney name so he adopted a stage name “The Ghost” and that’s what he fought with for his entire bare-knuckle boxing career from street fighting all the way to bare-knuckle boxing championships. He was good at it too. Earning him several titles. But it all came at a heavy price. Through the years Ryder suffered multiple injuries, from broken bones to repeated concussions that forced them to reluctantly retire. Always being one to try and hide their injuries it was a challenge to have to face them and come to terms that their body couldn’t withstand the gruelling training and matches no more. 

Came out as non-binary and pansexual after he retired.

Ryder’s still trying to find his place now he’s not competing. 

PERSONALITY:

While coming across as quiet and grumpy, most people will be lucky to get a sentence out of him, Ryder’s not aggressive unless prompted which is in stark contrast to how he looks and his history in boxing. While he prefers to spend time by himself but that doesn’t negate the fact that those close to them get his light-hearted and mischievous side.

Is known to skateboard down a road in the pitch black of night for the adrenaline rush. 

Due to their upbringing, they’ve always had an insatiable hunger to be better than they were yesterday. It has driven them to perform bigger stunt stunts and take up bigger fights than the last. Even as a child Ryder would think they could make impossible jumps on their skateboard, and while some of them he made, more often than not he’d end up with scrapes and having to push themselves home on a skateboard with a broken ankle. This is still evident in how even today if Ryder doesn’t feel as though they’re progressing regularly they’d feel disgustingly stagnant and restless and will do anything to feel as though they’re not.

The first six years of Charlie's life were perfect, what any child deserves. Charlie only wished that she remembered more of it. What she does remember is that she had two loving parents and an older sibling who doted on her. Charlie can remember the love she felt from them all, but she also remembers the immense sorrow the two children felt when the family was in a car crash on New Years eve. After being taken to the hospital, the Mason children were told that their parents didn't make it.

At first they were placed in foster care together around the Denver area. But eventually the two were separated and Charlie was scared shitless without her older sibling. It was clear from her caseworker that she going to be a runner, with every placement she eventually would try to run away to try to find where they were.

Luckily they quickly realized that it wasn't going to last and it ended amicably. After moving to Southern California she decided to go to college. Meet the OC - Emery

     When she was 12, she developed an eating disorder, due to bullying that occurred from school. Despite being a perfect weight for her age, people called her names (fat, ugly) so she stopped eating almost completely. It got to an extreme, when she was 15 and barely weighed 71 pounds.

               For her 16th birthday, her family took her to a nearby WWE Smackdown show, where she was able to meet some of her favorites (Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Kofi Kingston, Beth Phoenix). The one that stood out the most to her, that took time to really talk to her, was Kofi Kingston. Just seeing how thin she was worried Kofi, and he made a deal with her—Get to a healthy weight, and when she becomes a star, he’ll team with her and they’ll win the (to be created) intergender tag team championships.

               Emery was filled with emotions after their talk, and while it took quite some time, she eventually got to a healthy weight and even began getting some muscle mass.

Any History of broken bones? When she was 6, she fractured a bone in her arm. Luckily, it didn’t require surgery.

Any injuries from wrestling? In early 2014, after starting in ROH, she got knocked off a ladder and landed awkwardly. No concussions or breaks/fractures, but she sprained her ankle. Mid 2014, she was on the receiving end of a face-plant type maneuver and her nose got broken. They were able to reset it and it healed fine.

Behind the Story of ‘Dark Angel’ persona For the beginning of her career, Emery was a baby face. She didn’t want to be booed; she didn’t want to be a ‘bad guy’. She liked being a baby face. A lot of people suggested she try though, to see if she liked it or not, and if not then it could always be switched back.

She wasn’t convinced though.

When she made the trip to Japan, it was only meant to be temporary, for a few months at most. She got to hang out with her ROH friends like the Bucks—who in turn, introduced her to Kenny.

That was the moment all plans went out the window. The two of them hit it off and became almost inseparable. Gaming, arcades, cat cafes—they bonded over everything it seemed like. She got a good look at his Heel persona, the Cleaner, and wondered… perhaps it wouldn’t be too terrible?

With a little nudge from Kenny and some artistic input, they worked together in just mere months to create the Dark Angel version. Short blue hair, almost all black, punk-style clothing, and a badass attitude At first, she only wore more moderate clothing. Things that covered her-- issues stemming from her weight issues as a teen. However, after many conversations with not only Kenny, but Jay, Ibushi, Matt, Nick, and both Adams, she risked it all and wore slightly more revealing clothing, short shorts, skirts and cut-off shirts. And she began to love her body.

She’d cost people matches, interfere, attack people – even people twice her size—and she done it all with a smile and laughing maniacally.

Some people compared her to Harley Quinn or even the Joker.

Over the course of the next year, Emery got better at conniving and being devious, calculating and began to show disregard for Bullet Club enemies.

In 2017, she went with Kenny and got her first tattoo. A full-size pair of Angel wings on her back. After getting it, she no longer needed to wear the wing prop she had worn in previous years.

She figured, if she played an Angel, she might as well have wings. This is the moment that brought upon Kenny nicknaming her his ‘Angel’
